Hungry in New Orleans - by Rita

After Jen had visited me several times in New York I decided that we should visit another part of America. I asked Jen to choose where she wanted to go and she picked New Orleans, a place that I hadn’t been to either and was equally interested in visiting.

So she came to New York and I booked us a long weekend in New Orleans. We had an early start for a 6am flight so, no time to have breakfast, we just had coffee and set off. On the flight I had a window seat and Jen had the aisle seat. We used the seat in between us for our reading materials. The flight attendant came up and asked us if we were traveling together. When we said yes she was disappointed as she had 2 elderly ladies who wanted to travel together. She said she had one seat available in first class if either of us wanted it. I said to Jen “I’m very comfortable with my window seat, why don’t you take the upgrade?”. So she did and we both said “See you in New Orleans”.

At the hotel I said “Why don’t we get unpacked as quickly as possible and go out and find somewhere fabulous to have lunch?”. Jen’s response was “How could you even think about lunch after that breakfast we just had?”. I said “What? What are you talking about? What did you have? I had a packet of Goldfish and some really nasty coffee. What did you have?”.

Apparently it was along the lines of ... “More champagne Ms Greenwood? Another brioche with your bacon and eggs Ms Greenwood? Anything else I can get you Ms Greenwood?””. I said “And you didn’t think to even bring me back a bagel?”. She said she thought we were getting the same.

Well we did go out and have a wonderful lunch. Followed by a few days of fabulous food, music, architecture, climate and so on. Jen was the best person to share these things with, we had an amazing time there. She saw me eyeing up a refrigerator magnet of 3 cats dressed for Mardi Gras. She said “You want that, don’t you?”. I said “Yes but it’s $5 and I don’t pay that much for tac like that. When we were back in New York and Jen had gone home I saw the same magnet on my fridge. It’s still there today and this is why I will always love Jen. She will never, ever be forgotten.
